It’s not a secret that our cosmetics and skincare are pretty under-regulated in the US. Brands are being busted allll the time for falsely advertising organic ingredients, veganism, etc. But skin is porous. It absorbs (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/deborah-burnes/skin-care_b_1540929.html) our skincare, our bath products, the foundation we swipe on every day, our shaving cream.
If you wear lipstick or chapstick a lot, you eat a little bit (ew haha I know) every time you lick your lips, or you grab a bite to eat. It’s a lot more than most of us realize, and if we care so much about what we eat, we should DEFINITELY be caring about what goes on our skin too!!
With all of the misrepresentation, and a looonnng production chain that backs most products, it can be so overwhelming to figure out what you’re actually buying, but doing a little research on the things you use every day the best way to start.

Check out her reccs (I ended up with about 15 tabs open reading them – seriously good), and let her thoughts on the whole deal sink in a little.
“Most of my routine keeps to an 80/20 philosophy because it’s very difficult to be a complete purist, especially when working in the film industry. You can end up driving yourself a bit mad and make it more stressful than it should be. Sometimes you just need a mascara to be waterproof and that’s OK.”
Here are some of the products I’ll definitely be trying:
